Vårball

A fairy tale came true. For the first time my childhood dream of becoming Sleeping Beauty or Cinderella was fulfilled. It was a magical night, filled with music.

19th May, I went to the Vårball (the Spring Ball) with Daniel, my colleague (or rather, half-boss) in SenseGraphics. The ball was in Uppsala, the biggest student city in Sweden. At this time of the year, each student nation (something like student union) will organize a ball. The one we went to was at Norrlands Nation.

What girls like best ~ making locks!!
At Magnus's (Daniel's brother) place.
From left, Catharina (Magnus's gf), Susanna, me, Christina and her sister.

And while the girls were busy, the guys were chilling on the sofa eating popcorns!! Urgh!
And... as a consequence of spending too much time on the sofa, Daniel's buttons were done just 10 mins before going into Norrlands Nation.
Daniel's comment: why can girls look all pretty but guys have to look like penguins?!!
4 cute penguins... handsome!
All set for the ball!
(okie, I know i looked really short, but I was already on high heels!)
My date and I... at the foyer.
In the dining hall...
First course of the night ~ My favourite salmon!!
Choir performance
Now this is funny... it's the Norrlands song book that they gave out during the dinner.
Svärmor is one of the drinking songs (basically songs u sing when u r shit drunk) in the book.
Svärmor means mother-in-law, and it goes like this:
"That day I threw my mother-in-law into the Volga lake,
I screamed at her: You bitch! Make your last prayers!
She floated, but I threw stones at her until she sank!"
Now we know what Swedes think about their mother-in-law, haha!
Daniel n I at the dining table.
Second course... lamb file, yum yum!
Typical Swedish dinner ethics... never touch the last potato!
Me n my little white lotus

A-capella performance ~ super romantic =)
The dining table ~ the candle lights really looked pretty when it's dark
See?
Catharina n I. She looked absolutely gorgeous!
Magnus n IDaniel n I

Well, there's a big part of the ball that I didn't take pictures of ~ the dance! The dance started with a couple of Vienna waltz. I never thought I would dance to the "The Blue Danube" by Strauss. Remember how the couples spin like tops in the movies? Well, it was like that! Just that in reality, everyone was spinning in different directions, and navigation became the most interesting part of the dance ~ to try to ramp across the dance floor, and still looked elegant! Dancing was really fun. Daniel gave me a few crash courses before the ball, so we were able to enjoy the evening. After the waltz, the band played some jazz, and we danced fox-trott to that. I have a video of the dancing, I'll try to figure out how to put videos on blog asap! =)

Bei, at first I told u I wanna learn lindy-hop, but now I wanna learn waltz, swing and fox-trott! Hehe, u'll have a hard-time learning all of them!

Well, I'll really have to thank a few people for making this night so special for me:
Magnus and Catharina for a place to prepare
Christina for the hair-do
Ulrika (no.1) for the jewelries
Ulrika (no.2) for the dress
XiaoYing for the little white lotus
Anna for the shawl and gloves
and most importantly Daniel for the arranagements, the dances, and the breakfast & lunch!
