My genes failed me...
Some of my friends know that I have a pair of twin brothers, but not many have seen them I guess. (except Ah Ding, her bros know my bros... from the same school)
So, I decided to post a photo of us taken during ChineseNew year. Here you go... (the twins are beside me)
Well, as you can see from the photo, my genes have seriously failed me :P All of my siblings are of the same height (almost), 170 and above... and I only managed to grow up to a humble elevation of 158cm.
Actually I shouldn't compare with the boys, since they should be taller. But yet, the difference between my sis and I... hehe, she's tall, fair and lovely, with a model-like figure; and I, ah-hem, looked a bit like a stout potato! Haha!
Talking about heights, let me regurgitate my genomics lecture... height is a Quantitative Trait, meaning that it is defined based on many genes. Therefore, various combinations of alleles are possible, and that is why height has a continuous distribution. Also, Quantitative Traits are normally influenced by environmental factors. This means that height is not only dependent on the combination of genes that you have, but also the environment that you grew up in.
Based on these factors, I hereby conclude that either I have an unfortunate combination of genes that define my height, or I simply didn't drink enough milk when I was young! Probably it's both...
